switch plate
EMM2003 asked:

This is my first out of state move. I will be renewing my drivers liscense in Wisconsin to get residency, but I am not sure if I will need to get a new liscense plate for my car too. I would prefer to keep my Michigan plate, but if that is not possible, then I would be willing to switch.

What do you think? Are you going to be a resident of Michigan or Wisconsin?

you will need a liscence plate when your car’s registration is up

No, you don’t need to switch your MI license plate over to WI until your current one is expired. But just to be sure check with WI driving facility people when you get your new drivers license.

I think.

Besides that, welcome to Wisconsin! Good choice on your move, Wisconsin’s the best state to move to.

You are required to register your vehicle in the state that is your permanent residence. You may only posess one valid drivers license and it also should be where your residence is.

I moved from Michigan to Georgia and the answer is yes! you have I think 30 days to change to the state in which you are becoming a resident of. Keep your Michigan plate “IT”S YOURS” Mount it on the front if you wish.Good luck in your adventure. You”ll have to change your insurance to the state also. Before you can do any of this you’ have to prove residency in the new state ,utility bill, etc. Don’t bring your Michigan I.d they’ll keep it and you may need it for a while
