Sugarbritches asked:
I also have a switchplate that there are two different power lines going out of it, one doesn’t work, had to bridge it. We looked and looked and can’t find out where the 2nd power line ends up. I don’t want to tear down all the walls. Help! Thanks!

if it has never been rewired, you have knob and tube wiring, with cloth covering, buy 135 volt bulbs at a hardware,
the old wire allows the elect to fluctuate, from 110v to 125v
mine was buil in 1814 had the same problem till i had it rewired,
Yes, you have a problem that could possibly cause a fire. Light bulbs blow out prematurely due to variations in current, possibly caused by old or inadequately insulated wiring. You need to immediately have your wiring checked by a licensed electrician.
call an electrician my aunts house burnt down the 1st of jan and all she had was two toaster that had blown. and the fire started on the other side of the house
It could just be that you are buying cheap incandescent light bulbs. I have an old house and thought that I also had a problem..it turns out when I switched to the new compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) I didn’t have that problem anymore…
Regardless, you should check the wiring. Visually inspect it in the attic… if there are two wires and insulators or cloth wrapped wires, it would be wise to get a professional in there to inspect it.
